Season 2 ended forever ago at this point and I just saw a trailer for something called Beyond the System that dropped the season 3 label. Now Im seeing mixed stuff online, some people say its a movie replacing season 3 and others say the movie is separate and season 3 is still coming after. Is there an actual official answer on this or is it still up in the air?
It's genuinely a real theatrical movie, not a recap cut or a bridge special - Crunchyroll and Aniplex announced it properly at Anime Expo back in July, A-1 Pictures animating, picking up right where season 2 left off. So no, it's not a rebrand of season 3, it's its own thing sitting in between.
Season 3 itself has been confirmed too, just for 2027 or 2028, and nobody's said yet whether the movie leads directly into it or exists a bit more separately from it. I know that's an unsatisfying answer but that really is where things stand right now - the studios have only confirmed both are happening, not how they connect. Exact release date for the movie is still TBA as well, just "later this year" as of the last update.
